List 5 things...

List 5 things you would never do that sound fun.
List 5 things you used to do but don't do anymore.
List 5 things you think you are good at.
List 5 things that fulfill you that you need to do more of.
List 5 classes you would enjoy taking.

Here are a few prompts to get your mind thinking a bit. Completing these
lists is a great way of getting to know yourself a bit more. There's always a
"why" at the end of these questions. Go ahead and answer the "why" part for your own
satisfaction and inner growth.

The Artist's Way

"There is no such thing as being done with an artistic life. Frustrations and rewards exist
at all levels on the path. Our aim here is to find the trail, establish our footing, and begin the climb (...) Many of us wish we were more creative. Many of us sense we are more creative, but are unable to actualize them for ourselves. (...) While there is no quick fix for instant, pain-free creativity, creative recovery (or discovery) is a teachable, trackable spiritual process."

-Julia Cameron (pg.5)

To my like-minded students, this quote was inspiring to me. It feels so true and relatable on all levels, especially for creative spirits like us! Just as we discussed in the workshop, withholding the artist child from within or dismissing our wants to express ourselves can lead to a devastating end. As most of you mentioned:boredom, void of life, and "too much of the same" would consume you if creativity and art weren't a factor in your life. Keep up with your goals to fulfill your creative dreams!!

Creative Workshop today....

I would like to thank all of the women who came out to my workshop today in Geneseo.
We had a great time and I could sense the creative energy in the room just wanting to pour out of each participant. Thanks for being so brave ladies and be sure to keep in touch and let me know how your "artist child" is doing. Have fun on your dates!

I will soon be posting excerpts from Julia Cameron's text "The Artist's Way"(this is the text I based a lot of discussion on this afternoon) so we can all have something to ponder/write about in the weeks to come. It can also be a reminder of what we learned today during the course.

Have a wonderful, creative week everyone!

Namaste,

Georgjean

There are a few courses in the works for June and I'll let you all know the dates and venues as soon as I get a thumb's up on the exact details. The workshops will be three hours long or so and the cost will depend on the venue, ultimately.

Here are a few benefits you will get from one of my Expression Through Creative Writing
courses:

***promotes a healthy tool for expression
***brings awareness and stability to the writer
***counteracts the negative effects of stress
***ignite your ability to "just be" in the present moment in order to move forward in life
***ignite your spirit in order to eliminate past pains/traumas in your life
***ignites your motivation in order to fulfill your short and/or long term goals

These are just a few benefits you may receive from my courses so please feel free to contact me if you have any questions!!

Projections: Life as a mirror of our feelings

"Projection is the externalization of our inner emotional state;it keeps us fixed in the archetype we are living out (...) when we own our projections, by recognizing the we are in fact seeing through glasses distorted by our own emotions, we can make the shifts in our perception and thinking that will allow us to grow."

Chakras and their Archetypes pg. 17

Our Deepest Fears...

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

BY: Marianne Williamson

This quote always inspires me beyond measure. It rings so true and enables us to recognize how fear inescapably controls our life to some degree. Although it's such a positive, powerful, and palpable message, it is indeed difficult to swallow if you are one attempting to change your life in this moment.

Reflective by: A.R. Ammons

I found a
weed
that had a

mirror in it
and that
mirror

looked in at
a mirror
in

me that
had a
weed in it

Professor Thomas Joswick introduced me to this
poem in an American Literature course back in graduate school.
At times this poem rings so true with me, and at other times,
I'm not sure I completely grasp the entirety of the message.

The obvious message is reflection of one's self: look in the reflection
to understand yourself, connect with yourself, yada yada yada...

But as I read this poem several times a week as it embraces the surface
of the fridge, I wonder, is its message really that simple?

So I will continue to read this plentiful poem by A.R. Ammons in hopes
that a clearer and more graceful message looks back at me.
